Substitute Teacher arrested on solicitation charges for allegations involving student

BATTLE CREEK — Battle Creek Police arrested a 68-year-old man Thursday on charges of solicitation following a nearly monthlong investigation.

The BCPD and Lakeview Public Schools were informed on Oct. 29 of allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a Lakeview elementary school substitute teacher and student.

Throughout an investigation, the BCPD determined the conduct was not of a physical nature and, instead, centered around inappropriate communication between the substitute teacher and student.

Following consultation with the Calhoun County Prosecutor’s office, charges of solicitation were approved against the substitute teacher. The suspect is currently lodged at the Calhoun County Jail.

No other students are believed to be involved in this investigation. The community is encouraged to share any information they might have with the BCPD by calling 269-781-0911.

At this time, no further information will be released, the police department said in a statement.

A call to the school district was not immediately returned.
