Vernon Kay and Richie Anderson amusingly became muddled over an essential detail about Zoe Ball’s Breakfast Show on Thursday, despite being regular fixtures on it. The exchange happened just two days after Zoe announced she would be stepping down from her morning slot after six years at the station.
The 53-year-old will say farewell on her last three-hour episode scheduled for December 20 before Scott Mills takes over. In a statement, she told fans she wanted to prioritise her family and joked that she won’t miss the 4am wake-up calls.
Additionally, she teased that she’ll still be part of the Radio 2 family and promised more information will be shared in the new year. Just two days after her announcement, confusion struck during an exchange between Vernon and Richie on the former’s Thursday show.
Following a promo about Zoe’s Friends Round Friday feature, which referenced the programme’s start time, Vernon enthused: “Cracking show tomorrow for friends round Friday,” to which Richie responded: “That’s a good line-up isn’t it?”.
Vernon added hesitantly: “Yes make sure you tune into Zoe Ball at… 6.30?” Richie responded tentatively: “Yes, 6.30, yes. I don’t know why I thought about that, I do it every day.”
Tess Daly’s husband admitted he had made the same error several times, adding: “I’ve done that in the past I’m like, ‘Is it 6.30?'” Laughing, he continued: “Because there’s a lot of breakfast shows on the BBC that start at all kind of hours.
“Greg [James] don’t start until half past one in the afternoon on his breakfast show, do you know what I mean? It’s changing all the time!”
Meanwhile, Scott has broken his silence about replacing Zoe, sharing in a statement: “Zoe and I have been such good friends now for over 25 years and have spent much of that time as part of the same radio family here at Radio 2 and also on Radio 1.
“She’s done an incredible job on this show over the past six years, and I am beyond excited to be handed the baton.”
The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am on BBC Radio 2.
