Charges filed in alleged postal worker threats

Nov. 25—NEOSHO, Mo. — A Joplin man has been charged with making terroristic threats and harassing an employee at the Neosho post office, causing a Nov. 1 shutdown of the building.

Newton County Prosecutor Will Lynch filed felony charges of first-degree harassment and making a terrorist threat in the second degree against Zachary Earl Weaver, 39.

According to a probable-cause statement, Weaver called a post office employee and said he was going to shoot the person he called and also shoot up the post office. After the alleged threats, the post office was closed to everyone except law enforcement. The postal employee reported that calls were made throughout the morning. Weaver allegedly told the person that he was planning to end his own life and that it was the fault of the person to whom he spoke.

Judge Jacob R. Skouby issued a warrant for Weaver’s arrest and set bond at $5,000 cash or surety. The judge also ordered that Weaver have no contact with the postal employee.
