Amtrak Wolverine line seeing hours-long delays, outages under Thanksgiving traffic swell

Amid a slew of holiday travel, Amtrak’s Wolverine Train lines have seen hours-long delays and power outages, with some passengers’ travel plans changing from train to bus as several trains have been halted completely.

The problems began on Friday. According to an Amtrak spokesperson, Wolverine Train 352 lost power Friday and stalled rail traffic from Chicago to Detroit.

A spokesperson with Amtrak told the Free Press via email that train 352 was “halted due to no power onboard.” The stoppage came around 5 p.m. near New Buffalo, stopping travel for 173 passengers on board. There were no injuries, and the train was pulled to Niles by a rescue train. From there, traingoers were “provided alternative transportation to their destinations.”

On Saturday afternoon, Wolverine Train 365 was also delayed due to “mechanical issues.” It was stopped near Niles, where service crews worked on the engine.
