Anchorage woman dies in collision on icy Mat-Su road

Dec. 6—An Anchorage woman died and two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision on a busy road near Wasilla early Thursday, Alaska State Troopers said.

A man driving a Chevrolet pickup lost control on an icy section of Knik-Goose Bay Road around 5:20 a.m. and collided head-on with a Toyota Sequoia near Gleason Lane, troopers said.

Delynn Brouillet, 64, died at the scene, troopers said. She was a passenger in the pickup. Troopers said she and the driver were not wearing seatbelts.

Both drivers were seriously injured and were brought to a hospital, troopers said. No one else was in either of the vehicles.

Schools in Anchorage and the Susitna Valley were closed Thursday as freezing rain and rain falling on frozen surfaces created treacherous conditions, especially on side roads and parking lots. Troopers said weather was a major factor in the Knik-Goose Bay Road collision, but the investigation was ongoing.
