Pinpoint Alert: Strong wind gusts expected in foothills Monday night

The KIRO 7 Weather Team is issuing a Pinpoint Alert for late Monday night because of strong wind gusts predicted for some areas of western Washington.

We’re off to a calm start this morning with just a few lingering showers and mild temps near 50°. There is another developing area of low pressure offshore that will change things tonight, but most of the day looks mainly dry and calm.

As the low approaches the area, the wind will switch to more east/southeasterly and pick up in intensity at the Coast, the North, and the Cascade Foothills. Wind will increase late this afternoon and early evening and then stay strong into the overnight hours. Gusts could be 40-50 miles per hour with breezy conditions for the rest of the area.

There are no Wind Advisories yet, but we’ll keep an eye on that. Highs will be in the low-50s with rain increasing tonight as well, lasting into tomorrow morning. I’ve decided to call a PinPoint alert day for tonight, with Foothill locations having the strongest wind around 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., really emphasizing the 10 p.m. to midnight window.

Tomorrow will be wet in the morning, with the rain turning to showers. The wind will ease but it will still be a little blustery. Highs will be in the low-50s with decreasing showers.

Another system will move in on Wednesday afternoon and evening, with snow levels around 3,000′. Around a foot plus will fall in the passes into Thursday with widespread windy weather and plenty of rain.

More showers will linger into Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with potentially even windier and wet weather on Sunday.
