Even hours after the devastating attack in the US city of New Orleans, it remains unclear whether the perpetrator, who was killed after his deadly rampage, had accomplices, US media reported on Wednesday.
Investigators are examining surveillance footage, according to several media outlets, showing a suspicious group of four people. Initially, it was suspected that they might have placed explosive devices in the affected neighbourhood. However, shortly afterwards, they were reportedly ruled out as suspects.
Earlier, FBI investigator Alethea Duncan said that they did not believe the driver “was solely responsible.” The 42-year-old US citizen had posted on his social media a few hours before the attack that he was inspired by the Islamic State terrorist organization, US President Joe Biden said at a press conference, citing the FBI.
The man, a lifelong Texas resident according to reports, drove his pick-up truck into a crowd of revellers in the popular French Quarter in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day, killing at least 15 and injuring dozens.
