Matt Bayles began his second term as Marion County sheriff Friday.
Common Pleas Judge Todd Anderson administered the oath of office in front of about 100 onlookers at the Executive Drive Building in Marion.
Bayles, who grew up in Marion, said he enjoys the opportunity to serve and protect his community.
“It’s the best job in the world in my opinion, and I love coming to work every day,” Bayles said.
He said he is proud of the reduction in overdoses in the county due to the work of law enforcement officers and the criminal justice system.

He also highlighted the Safeguard Our Seniors program and the inmate work program as accomplishments in 2024.
Citizens Police Academy on the agenda for 2025
Bayles’ plans for 2025 include forming a Citizens Police Academy to educate the public on the duties of the Sheriff’s Office. He also plans to hold an open house, where the public would be welcome to see the work being done by the sheriff and his deputies.
“Being in law enforcement is a calling for those that do it, and I am proud of each and every one of them and the jobs that they do,” Bayles said.
Under Ohio law, a sheriff holds office for a four-year term. Bayles was reelected in November. He was unopposed.
