Prison officer Linda De Sousa Abreu jailed after filming sex with inmate in cell

A prison officer has been jailed for 15 months after having sex with an inmate in a cell.

Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, of Fulham, south-west London, was charged after a video of the activity was shared on social media.

A police investigation was launched after officers were made aware of a video filmed inside HMP Wandsworth, south-west London.

De Sousa Abreu was arrested. At Isleworth crown court in July last year, she pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office. She appeared at the same court on Monday, where she was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

The charge says De Sousa Abreu “wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell”.

It happened at HMP Wandsworth prison between June 26 and 28.

She was arrested at Heathrow Airport and was due to catch a flight to Madrid, having notified the prison of her travel plans.

In the footage, De Sousa Abreu is seen with Linton Weirich, a convicted burglar, as her discarded radio crackles with messages from colleagues.

Appearing in court on Monday, De Sousa Abreu admitted that she had previously romped with Linton Weirich in his cell.

Wearing a grey pin-striped blazer over a white shirt, she spoke only to confirm her name from the dock. She appeared to be holding back tears during the sentencing hearing.

Eloise Marshall KC, prosecuting, said Abreu had asked for two matters to be “taken into consideration” by the judge when he passes sentence.

“The first one is one previous occasion of sexual intercourse with the same prisoner [Weirich],” she said.

The second incident took place on the same date, June 25 last year, and also relates to Weirich. Ms Marshall said it was “partially recorded on her own prison-issued body-worn camera.”
