VIRGINIA BEACH — Three former Virginia Beach sheriff’s deputies made their first court appearances Monday on charges accusing them of murdering an inmate at the city jail last year.
Eric Baptiste, 39, Michael Kidd, also 39, and Kevin Wilson, 34, appeared via video for an arraignment in Virginia Beach Circuit Court. The group is due back in court Wednesday, when their attorneys will be asking a judge to grant them bond while they await trial.
All three are all charged with second-degree murder in the June 10 death of Rolin Hill. Baptiste also is charged with five counts of assault, and Kidd with two counts of assault.

The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office reported at the time that Hill, 34, had become combative during the booking process and had to be restrained. He was taken to a hospital after suffering a medical emergency, and died six days later.
The incident, which was captured by multiple body-worn and facility cameras, was investigated by state police and the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney at the request of Sheriff Rocky Holcomb.
A special grand jury issued indictments Friday, and the men turned themselves in later that day. All three were ordered held without bond, with Baptiste being housed at the Norfolk City Jail, and Kidd and Wilson at the Chesapeake City Jail.
