ELKHART — The Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office has charged the suspect in a pursuit and eventual standoff with police on an Indiana Toll Road exit.
Timothy J. Haraldsen, 47, was arrested early Friday morning after he barricaded himself in a stolen vehicle, police said. He was charged with resisting law enforcement, a Level 6 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; leaving the scene of an accident, a Class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. Bond was previously set at $100,000 surety.
Officers initiated a pursuit of a stolen van in the area of Cassopolis Street/East Bristol Street at 11:53 p.m. Thursday, the Elkhart Police Department said. The vehicle had been reported stolen from Wisconsin.

The van driver disregarded emergency lights and sirens and continued to flee from the originating officer as other EPD officers joined the pursuit, according to police.
The subject barricaded himself inside the vehicle and refused to exit, police said. Officers deployed chemical irritants inside the vehicle without success. The Elkhart County Regional SWAT team was activated and also deployed gas inside the vehicle with no success.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m., SWAT extracted the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle from the van with the assistance of a K-9 apprehension. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment.
During the investigation, Metro County Security reported that the suspect left the scene of an accident that occurred in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn, 215 Northpointe Blvd., Elkhart.
