President Joe Biden appointed Thursday as national day of mourning in remembrance of former president Jimmy Carter, who died Dec. 29 at the age of 100.
Biden called Americans to join together on Jan. 9 to pay homage to Carter. “I invite the people of the world who share our grief to join us in this solemn observance,” Biden said in a statement.
Biden and Gov. Tony Evers also ordered the American flag and the Wisconsin state flag to fly at half-staff for 30 days following Carter’s death.
