PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) — Nemex Enterprises President Zachary Young claimed a story CNN aired about his security consulting business ruined his career and his life.
Young took the stand again Wednesday, accusing CNN reporters of intentionally attacking his business under the guise of wanting to do a generic piece on Afghanistan evacuation models.

“It sounds to me like we’re talking about background information, lay of the land,” Young said.
Young said CNN Senior Reporter Katie Bo Illis was the first to reach out about doing the piece on November 3, 2021.
In a text exchange between Young and Illis, the reporter initially inquired about general evacuation information, then became more direct about Young’s business practices.
Young said he quickly became skeptical of Illis’ intentions.
“It seems like, to me, it feels like something’s being hidden,” Young said.
The security consultant received a message from CNN correspondent Alex Marquardt on November 10, saying they’re going to run a piece on his evacuation operations, asking Young to answer some last-minute questions.

Young said he wanted to seek legal counsel before continuing the conversation.
“When you hear that a mega news entity like CNN is about to hit you with a surprise investigation report, you want to consult with a few people that can help you understand what’s happening,” Young said.

But he didn’t get the chance. CNN aired the story the next day on November 11, the day Young claimed his business, reputation, and life were ruined.
Young is seeking monetary compensation for loss of business income and emotional distress.
Testimony will pick back up Thursday.
