Latest weather maps from the Met Office show we’re in for bitterly cold nights before a welcome rise in temperatures next week in Wales. Temperatures are expected to get as low as -6C in Wales on Friday morning which coincides with another weather warning for ice.
Maps from the Met Office show it is likely to be coldest in the early hours of Friday morning at Llanwddyn in north Powys. Elsewhere in Powys temperatures are expected to be around -5C.
It’ll continue to feel very cold on Friday with highs of around 4C in the afternoon in parts of the south west in Pembrokeshire and west of Swansea thanks to some cloud cover. It is expected to warm up slightly into the weekend but will still feel very cold with temperatures again lowest in Powys at around -2C, the forecaster predicts.

It’s expected to be a tad warmer on Saturday with highs of 5C again in parts of the south west in the afternoon. And temperatures are expected to look a bit more normal into next week with lows of -2C again in north Powys but up to 8C in parts on Monday. The maps below are in chronological order.
The forecast for Thursday evening reads: “Turning very cold beneath clear skies with a severe frost, icy stretches and freezing fog patches developing overnight. Turning cloudier in the far south west by morning. Minimum temperature -4C.”
Friday is predicted to be bright and sunny but cold for many with freezing fog slowly clearing throughout the morning. There is another yellow weather warning for ice in place on Friday from 3am until 11am affecting south Wales from Pembrokeshire to Monmouthshire.
It is likely to turn cloudier throughout the day with further occasional outbreaks of rain and snow possible in places. The weekend will feel cold again before milder temperatures next week with highs of 8C.
