New kiosk expands legal access for Crawford County at Van Buren Public Library

Crawford County residents now have greater access to vital legal resources.

A kiosk was placed at the library to help those navigating the Arkansas legal system. It’s part of an initiative by the Arkansas Access to Justice Foundation, in collaboration with the Court Improvement Program and the Administrative Office of the Courts, to donate courthouse kiosks to each county courthouse in the state.

One is already in place at the Crawford County Circuit Court, but the one at the library is expected to help even more Arkansans.

“Although our main objective is to place these kiosks in circuit courts, many librarians are eager to offer these resources. Many of the same people who seek guidance at their local courthouse also search for answers at their local library,” said Abby Brenneman, executive director of the Arkansas Access to Justice Reform. “Especially in rural areas, where there are few attorneys and, in some cases, limited internet access, these resources must be made available.”

A new kiosk also was placed at the Johnson County District Court.

The new resource provides:

  • Convenient access: Users can access court records, print exhibits and locate essential court forms and fact sheets.

  • Legal aid resources: Tools are available to apply for legal aid and explore video explainers and FAQs designed to simplify complex legal concepts.

  • Free access: The kiosk is open to the public at no cost, ensuring that financial barriers do not impede access to justice.

Crawford County residents can explore these tools in person at the Van Buren Public Library or online at ARCourtKiosk.org.

Kiosks were recently added to Randolph, Cross County, Gravette, and Lafayette public libraries.

Since March 2023, the AATJ has placed courthouse kiosks in 54 county circuit or district courts, including Sebastian, Crawford, Scott, Logan, Johnson and Franklin counties, as well as the Washington County Law Library and the Arkansas Supreme Court.
