ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The is a chance of another blast of very cold Arctic air is trailing behind a cold front that is heading our way. Cold and below average weather returns tonight and will stick around through Friday.
Lake effect snow showers continues tonight to the north and the northwest of us. Additional snow showers on Thursday before dry weather returns on Friday. Another system brings a wintry mix of precipitation to the area this holiday weekend. High and low temperatures Friday will feel noticeably warmer and closer to normal. This will also cut off the lake effect snow machine at least for a little while through Friday night with highs on Friday in the low-to-mid 30s with lows in the 20s.
Then it gets very cold. I’m talking dangerously cold. Another blast of arctic air gets carried in via the next cold front Sunday into early next week. This will help to kickstart off more lake effect snow. So we could get in on some of that. High temperatures go from the 20s on Sunday, to the single digits and low teens by Tuesday. Then the overnight lows go from the upper-teens and low 20s Saturday night, to single digits to below zero Monday and Tuesday nights.
