Peab has been commissioned to build a new central kitchen for Palvelukeskus Helsinki in Vantaa, Finland.
The contract, with Kiinteistö Oy AB Pakkalantie 30, is valued at €35m ($36m).
Palvelukeskus Helsinki is a City of Helsinki-run service that supports educational institutions and the welfare sector, providing essential services such as meals, cleaning, and care.
The project involves constructing a new building adjacent to the existing central kitchen, featuring dedicated spaces for food production, distribution, and support functions.
Once completed, the new central kitchen will prepare meals for school children, as well as Helsinki residents in need of care.
The building will be energy efficient, incorporating geothermal heat and solar panels, as well as heat recovery from cooking processes.
Peab region manager Ilkka Laakeristo said: “We’re happy to be part of this very interesting project where our expertise will be useful in many ways.”
The project is expected to commence this month and reach completion by mid-2027.
Peab will register the order in the first quarter of 2025.
Earlier this month, Peab was awarded a contract worth Skr255m by Ulricehamn Municipality to construct Björkås School in Ulricehamn, Sweden.
The school will span 10,000m² and provide educational facilities for 525 students. It will include 21 classrooms and an area for 30 students with special needs.
Also, Peab has secured a €10m contract to renovate an office building in Helsinki for Nordisk Renting.
The renovation, which begins this month, is set for completion in early 2026.
