LSU quarterback Colin Hurley was hospitalized after an early-morning car crash.
According to WBRZ, Hurley was driving a Dodge Charger that crashed into a tree on the south edge of LSU’s campus. When he was found by EMS personnel, he was unresponsive.
Officials said Hurley was unresponsive but breathing. A crash report said firefighters pulled Hurley out of his vehicle. He was in and out of consciousness and had a large cut on his face.
The cause of the crash has not been released, but officials said impairment was not suspected.
A spokesperson for LSU said in a text message to ESPN that the school couldn’t immediately comment because Hurley was a minor, and the school was “working through proper protocols” with Hurley’s family before saying anything. Hurley is 17.
Hurley was a true freshman in 2024 and did not throw a pass this season. He was 16 when he arrived on LSU’s campus in January of 2024 as an early-enrollee after he re-classified to the high school class of 2024. The Jacksonville, Florida, native was a four-star recruit according to Rivals and was the No. 20 pro-style quarterback in his class.
With the return of starting QB Garrett Nussmeier to the Tigers in 2025, Hurley is set to compete with Mississippi State transfer Michael Van Buren to be Nussmeier’s backup next season. Van Buren was Mississippi State’s primary starter as a freshman in 2024.
