A cyclist was killed after being hit by a speeding Audi on a busy main road. Aron Qureshi, 39, was struck by the car on Wilbraham Road in Whalley Range on a Sunday afternoon. The Audi, driven by Mohammed Dhiya Ali, was being followed by a Seat Leon driven by Ateeb Qaiser.
The cars reached speeds of 50mph and 60mph in a 30mph zone before the Audi crashed into Mr Qureshi, Manchester Crown Court heard. Ali was jailed at a previous hearing after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.
Qaiser was found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving by a jury. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. The pair were sentenced at separate hearings.

During Qaiserâs sentencing hearing on Friday (Jan 17), the court heard that he was driving his motherâs Seat Leon on Wilbraham Road in Whalley Range, on August 28, 2022. He pulled up at traffic lights alongside the Audi.
The cars drove off âat speedâ, and Qaiser followed behind Ali. Qaiser reached speeds of between 54mph and 68mph in a 30mph zone.
âIt is a built up residential area, there were parks and schools on the side of the road,â Judge Elizabeth Nicholls said. The judge said Qaiser had âslowed downâ but that shortly after, Ali collided with Mr Qureshi on his bike.
Mr Qureshi died the following day. âWhatever and wherever the blame lies, on August 28, 2022 Mr Qureshi lost his life,â the judge said, addressing Qaiser. âTherefore the condolences of this court must be given to his family.
âHe was killed when your co-defendant struck him in the Audi that he was driving. Nothing that you or I can say can mitigate their loss.â Qaiser went on trial accused of causing death by dangerous driving.

Prosecutors claimed he had been âracingâ the Audi. Mr Qureshi denied this and he was found not guilty by a jury.
He had already pleaded guilty to dangerous driving. Judge Nicholls told Qaiser that he was being sentenced for driving with excessive speed and performing a âdangerousâ overtaking manoeuvre.
She told Qaiser: âThe fact that there is a fatality is not your responsibility, but what it does is dramatically demonstrate why driving at such speeds in a dangerous manner is considered so seriously by this court.â
Ali, 39, of Kings Road, Chorlton, was sentenced in February 2023. He was sentenced to four years and 11 months in prison.
On Friday, Qaiser, 31, of Egerton Road North, Chorlton, was handed a suspended prison sentence. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended for 18 months and was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
