A former teacher at Kern Valley High School was sentenced Tuesday to 16 months in jail after being convicted of committing sex acts with a minor student.
Before Christopher Renaudo’s sentencing, the victim came forth to make a statement. The victim eloquently and calmly presented her statement in Kern County Superior Court.
The victim said she was emotionally and sexually abused by a man abusing his power. She called her interactions with Renaudo the most exhausting thing she had ever experienced.

She said she was a survivor and that she did not want to be known as a victim to Renaudo, who “will always be a sorry excuse of a man.” The victim said she felt like she owed him something in the past, but her thoughts have now changed.
“I did not and still do not owe you anything,” the victim said.
The victim also said Renaudo had brought irreversible pain to her and that he did not deserve to walk free after what he had done to her. She said she is now safe from Renaudo and said she hoped his ex-wife and his child are safe from him as well.
“I admire the way I persevered and grew (afterward),” the victim said.

Throughout the entire statement, Renaudo remained silent and faced forward, not reacting to the victim’s comments.
Kern County Judge Elizabet Rodriguez commended the victim for her bravery as she was able to report the situation and talk about what happened to her over and over again. Rodriguez also said she wanted to applaud the victim for recognizing and acknowledging that it wasn’t her fault that she went through this.
The victim reported Renaudo to officials March 5, saying she had been inappropriately touched by her teacher, according to the probable cause statement filed in court.
According to the police report filed by the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told officials Renaudo touched her inappropriately in three different incidents, all of which took place inside his classroom. In one incident, the victim told Renaudo she was uncomfortable with the interaction and told him to “back off,” and Renaudo replied, “It’s OK.”

The report said Renaudo also made contact with the victim through Instagram. He sent her private messages saying he “wanted her” since he first came to the school, as well as a video of himself touching himself, according to the report.
Renaudo was placed on administrative leave from Kern Valley High School for having an inappropriate relationship with a student, according to the report.
In December, Renaudo pleaded no contest to engaging in oral copulation with a minor and exhibiting harmful matter to a minor. The three other felony counts — sexual penetration on a victim under the age of 18, sexual battery and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense — were dismissed, according to court records.
Renaudo was sentenced to a low term of 16 months in jail. He is also required to register as a sex offender, Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez said Renaudo had a total credit of 520 days, which is just over 17 months. The $300 fine was converted to three days in custody due to the excess in Renaudo’s credits.
A criminal protective order shielding the victim from Renaudo was reissued and will be in effect for a 10-year period, lasting until Jan. 21, 2035, according to Rodriguez.
