Does JCPS have school today? What to know for Wednesday

Jefferson County Public Schools is operating on a non-traditional instruction day Wednesday due to weather conditions.

JCPS spokesperson Carolyn Callahan said that students will be online Wednesday as temperatures are forecast to drop well below freezing, and a cold weather advisory remains in effect until 10 a.m., according to the National Weather Service.

“This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our students in mind, as they would be waiting at bus stops and walking to school in extremely cold conditions. We are also taking into consideration our school buildings and the stress these low temperatures could cause on the facilities,” Callahan said in a statement.

After school athletic and extracurricular activities will go on as scheduled, as temperatures are expected to rise throughout the day.

The decision follows colder temperatures in recent days and five consecutive snow days amid Louisville’s historic snowfall in early January.

When factoring in wind chills, temperatures could be in the single-digit negatives Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
