Partly cloudy and windy today and tomorrow with stray snow squalls

WEDNESDAY: Partly Cloudy, Stray Snow Squalls, Windy. Hi 43. Winds: W 15-25 mph. Gusts to 45 mph.

It was once again mild yesterday afternoon with temperatures reaching the lower 40s across Central PA. Lots of snow melt occurred, which will likely continue this week despite two arctic fronts dropping in today and tomorrow. This morning saw the advancement of the first cold front and some snow showers did make into far northern areas. The winds though have subsequently strengthened, and will remain elevated through the afternoon. This afternoon will be partly cloudy and windy with highs in the upper 30s. The second front will move through during the day on Wednesday with partly cloudy skies and some snow squalls, again mainly for northern and western parts of the state. Highs will be in the 40s on Wednesday and it will be windy again too as the front passes through. Gusts could exceed 40 mph tomorrow. Thursday should be mostly sunny and a bit cooler behind both fronts. It will also be less windy.

Looking ahead, the week could end with some rain. Friday will see rain develop as the mildest air of the month moves in; highs will be in the mid-40s on Friday! At this time about a half inch of rain should be expected. Another weak system could close the weekend with a few light rain or snow showers by Sunday. We already have a deficit of almost 2″ for the year as January has been dry, despite last Sunday’s snow. Any moisture will help and we will keep a watchful eye on the end of the week. In the meantime, enjoy the warmer temperatures to close out the month!
