A protest was held in Downtown Dayton on Sunday as people gathered to speak out against the increased ICE raids and recent immigration crackdown.

As reported on News Center at 11:00, around 100 people gathered near Main Street in Dayton on Sunday afternoon.

News Center 7′s Malik Patterson reported seeing at least eight flags being flown. Protesters told him they wanted to bring back unity.
“It feels great, it is beautiful, we feel the love and support,” said Honesty Garcia.
The protesters said they were proud of their community.
The protest was four hours long in Downtown Dayton. They stood between Second and Third Streets.
They told Patterson they felt like they need come together after heading about ICE raids across the county for over a week.
“I don’t like that. There are ways to go about it. You’re trying to find the criminals. The criminals are not sitting at home, sitting watching TV with their family,” said Adriani.

CBS News reported that these immigration raids are part of what President Trump promised he would do on the 2024 campaign trail.
Michelle Lopez told Patterson she had never heard so many people talk about legal status before in casual conversations.
“It’s not something that you ask, ‘Are you legal here?’ You just love who you love, and we’re all equal,” said Lopez.
Patterson also spoke with Megan Smith, the organizer. She said what hurts the most is seeing children scared to be separated from their families.

“There should be no reason that kids in school should be scared to go to school. They need to keep immigration and politics out of our education system as well. Just leave the kids alone,” said Smith.
She told Patterson that she was organizing another protest.
Smith wants more in the community to stand united.
