Bucks County winery has Eagles fans covered for Super Bowl with a green sparkling wine

With the Philadelphia Eagles heading to the Super Bowl, Birds fans have much to celebrate.

And that’s why many are flocking to Buckingham Valley Vineyards to pick up a bottle of their special release Green Sparkling Wine ahead of the big game.

Jerry Forest, who owns the winery at 1521 Durham Road with his wife Kathy and their three sons, said he had no idea how popular the wine would be when they made their first batch of it just a week and a half before the Eagles’ last trip to the Super Bowl in 2023.

“We did two cases for our family, and then it caught on” Forest said. “It just seemed like a fun thing to do.”

In just the week leading up to the game, they ramped up production and sold more than 2,000 bottles. Ever since then, they continued to make and sell the wine, which he described as champagne or brut wine that’s not sweet or dry, but somewhere in between.

After the Eagles won the NFC Championship, Forest said they’ve been doing all they can to keep up with the demand.

“It’s selling very well because there’s a lot of Eagles fans in this area. And we’re getting orders from all over the state right now,” Forest said.

On Friday morning, the winery’s team was hard at work in the production area, taking their already aged brut wines through the final steps, which includes adding the dosage — a mixture of sugar, wine and emerald green coloring — to create the final product.

Upstairs, a steady stream of customers filled the wine shop with hopeful anticipation, as customers dropped by for a bottle or case of the special release wine that bore the phrase “Celebrate them Birds” on its label.

Ed Rumick, of Fountainville, with two bottles in hand, said he’s looking forward to celebrate a big Eagles win.

“We plan to crack these open after the game,” he said. “I don’t hope they’re going to win; I know they’re going to win. They’re going to crush the Chiefs.”

Another customer, Joe Beck, of Warminster, said he hoped the wine might bring the Eagles an extra dose of luck, and calling it “green revenge” before giving the ubiquitous “Go Birds!” sendoff.

Forest said the winery will continue to produce bottles of their green sparkling wine in hopes of having it available up to and including the day of the Super Bowl, but encourages customers who are driving a long distance to call ahead to ensure they are in stock.

“We never thought it would take off like this,” he said.

“We’ve met a lot of new friends and customers because of this. They might’ve not known about us being here, but the publicity has brought a lot of people out and a number of them we hope will come back.”

Buckingham Valley Vineyards is selling their Green Sparkling Wine at $18 a bottle.

It can be ordered online or by phone for pick-up in person or to have it shipped within Pennsylvania. Walk-ins are also welcome. Buckingham Valley Vineyards is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
