Wilkes-Barre police seek information on 2006 homicide of Patricia Moreton

Feb. 11—WILKES-BARRE — City police detectives Tuesday announced they are continuing to investigate the homicide of Patricia Moreton, who was fatally shot inside an apartment on Hazle Street more than 19 years ago.

Moreton, 35, suffered a gunshot wound to her head on Jan. 31, 2006, inside her apartment at 340 Hazle Ave. To date, no arrests have been made in her homicide.

On Nov. 5, 2024, an unknown person tagged an adjacent building with the message, “Patricia Moreton, Serial Killer Victim.” The graffiti message has since been painted over.

Police on their Facebook page announced they are investigating the cold case homicide of Moreton and are seeking information.

Anyone with information is asked to call the lead investigative detective Lt. Matt Stash at 570-208-0911 or by email mstash@wilkes-barre.pa.us.

“Anonymous tips may be left at the same number. Any information, even if someone things it irrelevant, may help solve this case and bring justice to this family,” the social media post says.

Moreton’s family have held vigils on the anniversary of her murder.

Moreton was found deceased on the kitchen floor of her apartment by a landlord. Authorities said in 2006 they believed Moreton was killed 24 to 48 hours before the discovery.

Her family previously said Moreton’s favorite holidays were Christmas and the Fourth of July as they involved family gatherings.
