London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan has made his pro-European stance crystal clear, earlier today he declared: “I’m a proud European and of the view that Brexit was a mistake and continues to have a negative impact – not just on my city and country, but on the European community as a whole”.

In talks with the EU ambassador to London and representatives from all 27 member states, Khan showed his commitment to strengthening connections, saying, “I believe this is essential if we’re to effectively tackle a host of shared challenges – relating to trade, our economies, security, the environment and the rise of an intolerant and anti-democratic populism.”

Moreover, the Mayor voiced his backing for a youth mobility scheme, which is also supported by various EU leaders, aimed at driving economic growth in the capital and providing young people under 30 with the chance to work overseas.

Khan’s advocacy for closer ties with the EU unfolds against a backdrop of tense UK-EU relations and the return of Donald Trump as US President, who has suggested imposing tariffs on global imports, sparking widespread concern about the potential impact on the economy.

Mayor of London Sir Sadiq Khan has reiterated his viewpoint, saying: “I will continue to make the case about the importance of deepening our ties [with the EU] and being bold when it comes to closer alignment. This includes my long-standing position on the benefits of the single market and customs union.”

Echoing Sir Sadiq’s thoughts, TV star Jeremy Clarkson has been vocal about his stance, admitting he’d sever connections with anyone who voted Leave. Public sentiment seems to align, as a Mirror report suggests up to 65 percent of voters now see Brexit as a complete flop.

Another survey by the Mirror indicates that many Brits feel worse off since leaving the EU, with a whopping 72 percent believing their living standards have declined post-Brexit. The aftermath of the UK’s EU exit has seen a tightening grip on the nation’s purse strings, with escalating food costs impacting family budgets and post-Brexit red tape, coupled with the surging cost of living, hitting small businesses hard.

The ripple effects extend further, causing longer travel times and making studying or working in Europe a bureaucratic nightmare.
