Central Illinois may get a taste of spring next week, following a bitter cold snap that changed its tune.
Temperatures Friday are warming and will see a high near 28 in Springfield. The weather will get warmer through the weekend and by Monday, a high near 57 is predicted, according to the National Weather Service.
The past week has seen temperatures that are around 15 to 25 degrees below normal, said Alex Erwin, a meteorologist with the NWS.

The warmest period in the warmup will be Monday through Wednesday, with highs in the mid to upper 50s. That would be around 10 to 15 degrees above normal, but not quite approaching record levels.
River flooding is not much of a concern in the Springfield area.
Weather will cool again, possibly see rain
No rain is expected through Tuesday, but a cold front moving through on Wednesday will also bring a 40 or 50% chance of rain. No severe thunderstorms are expected.
The temperature will dip from the mid-50s – likely back into the 40s on Thursday.
“Highs in the mid-40s is actually pretty close to normal for this time of year,” Ewin said. “While we cool down behind that front, it’s not going to be any kind of bitter cold like we were dealing with.”
