FOND DU LAC – A 43-year-old Wild Rose man is in custody after leading sheriff’s deputies and State Patrol troopers on an approximately 18-mile pursuit Friday night.
Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release a deputy had been informed around 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21 that a vehicle had traveled to the Milwaukee area to pick up “illegal substances” and was heading back northbound.
The deputy observed the vehicle on Interstate 41 near Church Road. As the deputy began following the suspect vehicle, it exited into the city.

The suspect vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office, then failed to stop at a stop sign and the deputy activated his emergency lights and sirens to try to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle, however, increased its speed, prompting the pursuit, the sheriff’s office said.

The suspect vehicle then traveled south on Hickory Street and then north on Rolling Meadows Drive. A deputy positioned at Rolling Meadows and Johnson successfully deployed tire deflation devices on the suspect vehicle, which then turned northbound on I-41. A tire deflation device was also successfully deployed at I-41 and Winnebago Street, the sheriff’s office said.
The pursuit continued northbound until the suspect vehicle exited at State 26 in Winnebago County. The suspect vehicle turned eastbound on County N for a short time before turning southbound on Old Knapp Road. At that time, a Fond du Lac County deputy made a “Pursuit Intervention Technique” to try to end the pursuit. The PIT was successful, the sheriff’s office said, causing the suspect vehicle to become disabled in the ditch. The driver then was taken into custody without further incident.
