A suspect has been ‘identified’ following the tragic death of a little three-year-old girl in a van and Metrolink tram crash in Manchester city centre, it is understood.
Emergency services raced to Mosley Street at around 10am on Saturday (February 22) following reports of a crash. The girl was a pedestrian who was hit when the van was forced onto the pavement. She was rushed to hospital but later died of her injuries.
It is understood the girl was hit by the Mercedez-Benz van moments after it had crashed into a tram and mounted the pavement. The collision prompted a huge emergency services response with two air ambulances being dispatched to the scene.
Police began hunting the van driver, understood to have fled the scene, and an investigation was launched.
