Fish Creek may get a boost for those planning a weekend getaway in Wisconsin.

The Door County community was recently named by HGTV as the most charming small town in Wisconsin. Based on natural beauty, local history and range of shops and restaurants, the home and garden channel compiled a list of most charming destinations in each state.

Here’s what makes Fish Creek a leading Wisconsin destination and which other small towns made the list:

What makes Fish Creek a charming destination?

Between a bustling downtown and one of Wisconsin’s most popular state parks steps away, Fish Creek offers Door County travelers the best of both worlds, according to HGTV.

Visitors can enjoy the town’s range of shops, galleries and waterfront accommodations, including “some of the best shopping in the region” at Founders Square and Liberty Square, HGTV said. In terms of dining, Pelletier’s and the White Gull Inn are among two local restaurants that offer a classic, fiery Wisconsin fish boil.

The lakeside town also has ample outdoor offerings, ranging from boat tours and kayaks to hiking and biking trails at Peninsula State Park. The park, which was the third-most popular in Wisconsin last year, also features a beach, lighthouse, 60-foot observation tower and golf course.

“While you’re in town, play a round or two of golf, take a Segway tour or catch a movie under the stars at the Skyway Drive-In Theater,” HGTV added.
