Fond du Lac Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed suspect Monday evening

A Fond du Lac sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a person Monday after deputies say the person refused to follow repeated commands and produced what law enforcement believed to be a firearm.

Deputies contacted the individual, wanted on a felony warrant, Monday evening via phone. Law enforcement officials were told by another person the individual appeared to have a handgun in their waistband, and police later located the person around the 6300 block of Cherrywood Drive, according to a release.

Law enforcement say the individual refused to follow commands and one of the deputies discharged a non-lethal weapon. Shortly after, the individual produced what deputies believed to be a firearm. In response, a deputy shot the individual at 6:22 p.m. EMS were contacted, and law enforcement attempted life saving measures.

The individual was transported to a nearby hospital, and pronounced dead. The involved deputy is on administrative assignment, per agency policy, according to the release.

No law enforcement or other members of the public were injured during the incident.

Involved law enforcement were wearing body cameras during the shooting, and are cooperating with DCI during the investigation, according to the release.
