Matthew Stafford is staying put.
After reports that the veteran quarterback was exploring trades with other teams, Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams have agreed to a restructured deal that will keep him in L.A., per multiple media reports.
The Rams announced Stafford’s return Friday.
Last week, the Rams reportedly gave Stafford permission to speak with other teams who were interested in acquiring the quarterback. At the time, the expectation was that Stafford would stay with L.A. next season, but that he wanted a backup plan in case contract negotiations didn’t go anywhere. Stafford was reportedly speaking with the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders, two quarterback-needy teams, as a result.
In the end, that wasn’t necessary; Stafford will stay in L.A.

Stafford, who joined the Rams in 2021 after an extended run with the Detroit Lions, led the team to its second Super Bowl victory that same season.
The terms of the new contract have not been revealed. Prior to the restructuring, Stafford’s contract held salary cap hits of $49.7 million and $53.7 million, respectively, over the next two seasons, with the deal running through 2026. He was also due a $4 million roster bonus in March.
With Stafford off the market, the Raiders and Giants are looking to other players to take over at QB1. The Giants in particular are looking for a veteran quarterback, and are now shifting their focus to former New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, per multiple reports.
