Local communities will continue their tradition of free, family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations which include lowering objects honoring local businesses.
The Middletown Valley Bank Krumpe’s Donut Drop in Hagerstown, the Boro Blast in Waynesboro and the Martin’s Famous Potato Roll Drop in Chambersburg all begin and end early so kids can attend, too, and adults can enjoy other festivities later in the night if they want to.
Here’s what’s planned to say goodbye to 2024 and welcome 2025:
Hagerstown Donut Drop is on the move
A change is in store this year in Hagerstown as the Middletown Valley Bank Krumpe’s Donut Drop relocates a few blocks from Public Square to Meritus Park. The event begins at 5 p.m. and concludes with the drop and fireworks at 7 p.m.

Early in 2025: Hagerstown’s indoor sports facility expected to open in mid-January at former stadium site
The new venue is just a few blocks away from the square and offers more space to celebrate, restrooms rather than portable toilets and added safety and security, according to Melissa Fountain, events coordinator for the Maryland Theatre, which presents the celebration.
In addition, food trucks will be set up outside the stadium and there will be limited bar service inside Meritus Park. The new location also means no public streets will have to be closed and staff won’t be needed to set up temporary fences and trash cans or remove them after dark.
“Ultimately, we feel the ballpark will provide a more positive attendee and staff experience, and we’re excited to partner with one of downtown Hagerstown’s newest attractions,” Fountain said.

The drop of the large Krumpe’s Donut – an homage to the hometown treat – had to be reconfigured as a result of the move, according to Fountain. Digging and Rigging is donating crane services. The crane will be set up in the parking lot and will lower the donut to a giant AC&T coffee cup in front of the solid green batter’s eye backdrop inside the stadium.
The gates open at 5 p.m. The celebration includes a kids’ zone, music by DJ Sidekick and free Krumpe’s Donuts and AC&T hot chocolate and coffee.
Boro Blast will feature a floral tribute
A giant red rose will drop from the sky on New Year’s at Main Street Park in Waynesboro. Every year, a different business is saluted by Mainstreet Waynesboro at the Boro Blast. This year’s honoree is Eichholz Flowers, founded 130 years ago in 1894.
The celebration runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at two locations – outdoors at Main Street Park and indoors at the former Elks Lodge nearby.

Downtown development: Main Street in Waynesboro has become a destination. Here’s why
At the park, champion ice carver Danny Kissel will demonstrate his skills and there also will be music. In addition to the rose – created by Waynesboro Area Senior High School art teacher Rebecca Erb and members of the WASHS National Art Honor Society – hundreds of balloons will fall from the sky for the Drop and Pop. The countdown starts at 7 p.m.
Inside, there will be a KidsZone, StoryTime for kids, a STEM station and the chance to win prizes from local merchants. F&M Trust has been the lead sponsor for the Boro Blast, and will offer its Money Machine again this year.
The evening also will include 2025 swag, the opportunity to sign the Wishes for ’25 banner and food trucks.
Chambersburg celebration is on a (potato) roll
