A Place in the Sun’s Laura Hamilton opens up on ‘scary’ question she was asked after divorce

Laura Hamilton, the familiar face from A Place in the Sun, has opened up about the “scary” question she’s been asked repeatedly after her divorce.

The Scottish presenter disclosed last year that she and her former spouse Alex Goward had parted ways after a nine-year marriage. The pair are parents to two children: Rocco, aged 10, and Tahlia, who is eight.

In a candid interview with the Sun on Sunday, Laura shared that she’s back in the dating scene but remained tight-lipped regarding speculation about a connection with 44 year old business CEO James Pettigrew, who is also going through a divorce.

Post-divorce, Laura expressed to the Sun on Sunday that she doesn’t see her marriage as a failure, especially given her two “amazing” children. Yet, she acknowledged that some have questioned their decision to split, highlighting concerns about being single at 39 as potentially “scary.”

She commented: “I’ve always been quite a strong and independent person. I don’t feel like I was ‘starting again’.”, reports the Mirror.

“I never really speak about why I separated, which I think is why there’s this fascination about it. It feels such a long time ago to me now, and I’ve embraced where I am.”

Laura, who has been involved in property since she was 19, joined the team of A Place in the Sun in February 2012. Despite her gratitude for the show, she admitted that her role can sometimes complicate her dating life.

She commented: “I’m dating. I’m having fun. No, I don’t have the apps. I’ve tried those in the past three years. I went on Raya and thought: ‘This is not for me.’ I like to meet people organically.

“People do look at me and say: ‘I know you from somewhere? ‘ and that starts a conversation. I did go out on a date with somebody and the only thing he wanted to talk about was buying a property in the sun. I’m not here to be your property consultant!

“But it’s quite difficult for me to date when you look at my life and how busy I am. I’ve got two children and I’m abroad every other week. Really, I should have a man in every country. That would be a more interesting story [laughs]. ‘Oh, she’s got one in Ibiza, she’s got one in Mallorca.’ No, that’s not who I am.”

The 42 year old married Alex in Surrey, with their wedding featuring prominently in Hello Magazine. Laura says she has “massively learnt” from having a public relationship and has resolved to keep that part of her life private from now on.

She added: “It won’t be a secret – people I’m close to will know what’s going on – but it will be confidential. Just because you’re in the public eye, it doesn’t mean that you have to have everything out there for everyone to see.

“I’ve got a busy life and a great group of friends. It’s probably a bad thing to say, but I think I might be a little bit intimidating to men. My life is full, so it’s not like I need to be with somebody to validate me. If I could tell my 26-year-old self anything, I’d say: ‘Believe in yourself. You will be fine on your own.'”.
