A busy commercial stretch in Lexington is set to get a little more flavorful.
Wingstop, a well-known national chicken restaurant chain, is prepping a space at 736 W. Main St. in Lexington. That’s in the Town Square shopping center that is anchored by a Food Lion grocery store and has a host of other businesses.
The coming Wingstop is listed as “under construction” in the town of Lexington’s August planning and zoning actions documents, and Mayor Hazel Livingston listed it among other coming businesses in Lexington’s September Mayor’s Message newsletter. Construction work was ongoing in the W. Main Street space and a building permit for Wingstop was posted in the window when a reporter went by recently. The wing restaurant is being built in a storefront that formerly was home to Cricket Wireless. An opening date has not been publicly announced.
There are nearly 2,000 Wingstop location across the U.S., according to data site ScrapeHero. Other locations in the Midlands include spots on Dreher Road in West Columbia, on Broad River Road in Irmo and on Percival Road in Columbia, per a store locator tool on Wingstop’s website.
Wingstop is known for its various chicken offerings, including wings, boneless wings, tenders and sandwiches, with a number of sauce flavors available, including lemon pepper, mango habanero, and hickory smoked barbecue, among others.
There are several businesses located in the Town Square shopping center in Lexington, including Food Lion, RF’s Corner Grill, Musician Supply, Terry’s Barber Shop, Black Tiger Tae Kwan Do, and more. A Lizard’s Thicket and Lexington County’s auxiliary administration building are across the street.
The Wingstop will be coming to a high-traffic stretch not far from the heart of downtown Lexington. More than 47,000 cars per day travel down that section of W. Main Street, per SC Department of Transportation statistics.
