Adrian Public Schools awarded $32,000 from Michigan’s Student Loan Repayment program

ADRIANAdrian Public Schools last month announced it has been awarded $32,000 from the Michigan Department of Education’s 27k Student Loan Repayment program.

The goal of the program is to support educators by alleviating the burden of student loan repayments, thereby fostering a more supportive and thriving educational environment, APS said in a news release.

“This grant is a tremendous opportunity to support our teachers who work tirelessly to provide quality education to our students. By alleviating some of their financial burdens, we hope to enhance their professional and personal well-being, ultimately benefiting the entire Adrian Public Schools community,” Nikki Culley, director of human resources at Adrian Public Schools said in the release. Culley spearheaded the grant application process.

Adrian Superintendent Nate Parker praised the program, emphasizing its role in addressing the ongoing teacher shortage.

“Programs like the 27k Student Loan Repayment Program are essential in supporting and retaining our educators,” he said. “This funding not only helps our current teachers but also makes our district more attractive to prospective educators. We are grateful to the Michigan Department of Education, the legislative body and Governor (Gretchen) Whitmer for their commitment to investing in the future of education.”

The awarded grant will provide a “significant step,” the district said, towards achieving the goal of creating a supportive and enriching environment for both students and staff, where teachers feel valued and supported as they continue to inspire and educate the next generation.
