Dec. 19—Alabama’s poet laureate Ashley Jones will be the keynote speaker at Decatur and Morgan County’s inaugural Celebrating Women of Character event on March 8 at Ingalls Harbor.
Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will include a CPR and safety workshop, women’s safety and defense workshop, yoga and meditation workshop, and a historical talk on local women.
The event, which will spotlight women-owned businesses and organizations, coincides with International Women’s Day. Admission to the daytime event is free.

Festivities will continue in the evening, 6-9 p.m., at Turner Surles Community Resource Center. Tickets cost $20 and benefit S.E.V.E.D.A., Supporting Each Victim Encountering Domestic Abuse.
Decatur Parks & Recreation, Decatur Morgan County Tourism and Decatur Morgan Chamber of Commerce are partnering to host the event.
