EMMY-WINNER ERIC BAUZA, SAG AWARD WINNER LAUREN LAPKUS, and JAMES ADOMIAN, lead cast as, Filmmakers, Animators, Actors Collaborate to Release DIY Frasier Remake.
Amid the historic WGA/SAG strike, a group of 100+ animators, filmmakers, and visual artists have teamed up to create Our Frasier Remake, a collaborative, frame-by-frame reimagining of the Seattle psychiatrist, set to release one day before Paramount Plus’s Frasier reboot. Watch the trailer for Indie Our Frasier Remake from BAFTA-winning animator Steven Kraan, Jimmy Kimmel Live director Jacob Reed, Robot Chicken director Harry Chaskin, viral cartoonist KC Green and more here.
In the vein of projects like Our Robocop Remake, Our Footloose Remake, Shrek Retold and Star Wars Uncut, Our Frasier Remake consists of 185 “chopped-up” segments of a single episode of Frasier. A different artist is responsible for each section, reimagining it in their own visual style.
The episode selected is the acclaimed Season 1 Finale, “My Coffee with Niles” which originally aired in 1994 and asks whether or not Frasier is happy. Our Frasier Remake creator Jacob Reed believes this to be “a thinly veiled question about whether or not a spin-off of Cheers called Frasier was worth it. Three decades later, we’re asking the same question about rebooting. Our Frasier Remake is a celebration of Frasier, yet also critiques the current culture of endless remakes.”
Our Frasier Remake is a collaboration between 100+ filmmakers, animators, and visual artists. The episode also features an all-new voice cast including Emmy-winner Eric Bauza (Looney Tunes), SAG-Award winner Lauren Lapkus (Jurassic World), BenDeLaCreme (The Jinkx and DeLa Holiday Special), James Adomian (Harley Quinn), Daniel Van Kirk (Bob’s Burgers), Rekha Shankar (Grand Crew) and Haley Hepworth (Just for Laughs for Faces).
Individuals in the group have won BAFTAs, Emmys, SAG Awards, Webbys, Telly Awards, Vimeo Staff Picks, Gold Addy, and Clio Awards as well as been nominated for Grammys, WGA Awards, and Emmy Awards. Their past work includes The Simpsons, SpongeBob Square Pants, Robot Chicken, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Funny or Die, plus projects for A24, HBO, Nickelodeon, FXX, Adult Swim, and Comedy Central. Their work has been widely seen at SXSW, Sundance, Slamdance, Raindance, and many more. The team spans twenty U.S. States and 11 countries.
The project is being led by director, comedian, and visual artist Jacob Reed whose past work includes Funny or Die and Jimmy Kimmel Live. Jacob recently grabbed headlines by flying a plane over the major LA studios in support of the WGA Strike.
Our Frasier Remake will premiere in Austin at We Luv Video on Friday October 6th, Los Angeles at Vidiots on Saturday October 7th, in Seattle at The Grand Illusion on Saturday October 7th. The screenings will be followed by an online release October 11th 12:05am EST on YouTube and at OurFrasierRemake.com.
Proceeds from all screenings will be split between the non-profit theaters and The Union Solidarity Coalition.
