Authorities stated that at 4:04 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20, deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting at an auto repair shop at 13600 Quinnault Road.

Arriving deputies encountered Sanchez who was armed with a handgun. He was arrested without incident, sheriff’s officials said.

Sanchez was found to have a valid, issued San Bernardino County Carry Concealed Firearm permit, authorities said.

Deputies also located Portillo and Augsburger, each suffering from gunshot wounds. Lifesaving measures were attempted on both men, authorities said.

Portillo died at the scene and Augsburger was taken to a trauma center for treatment where he remains in critical condition. His condition on Monday is unknown, sheriff’s officials stated.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail assumed the investigation and discovered that Portillo and Augsburger had arrived at the auto shop and confronted Sanchez.

During an argument, witnesses heard Portillo threaten Sanchez. As the situation escalated, Sanchez allegedly fired at Portillo and Augsburger, striking them both, sheriff’s officials reported.
