One man was killed in a shooting near a gas station east of Highway 71 Thursday morning.
Officers responded just after midnight to the 2200 block of East 31st Street on a reported shooting. They found a man with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of a Shell Xpress Mart gas station.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Investigators said an argument in the parking lot led to shots being fired and the victim being struck by bullets, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a spokesman with Kansas City Police Department, in an email.
Detectives were interviewing witnesses and reviewing any surveillance footage from the area Thursday.
Police have not yet released the identity of the victim.
The killing is Kansas City’s 116th homicide of 2024, according to data tracked by The Star. At this time last year, the city had recorded 146 homicides.
