Australian Cricketers Face Threats: A Disturbing Trend in Cricket Fandom

Several Australian cricketers have lodged complaints with Cricket Australia and the Australian Cricket Board, alleging that they and their families have been subjected to death and rape threats from some Indian cricket enthusiasts. The wife and daughter of Travis Head have reportedly received death and rape threats from a few Indian fans. Vini Raman, Glenn Maxwell’s wife, has also been the recipient of numerous abusive direct messages filled with hateful content. She took to Instagram to clarify that she was born and brought up in Australia, her parents are of Indian origin, and as Glenn Maxwell’s wife, she supported Australia in the final.

The situation escalated following Australia’s victory in the World Cup final, which seemed to upset some Indian fans, particularly because the match was won on Indian soil. These fans have taken to Instagram to target the families of Australian cricketers. The offensive comments are still visible on Vini Raman’s profile as well as other cricketer’s families accounts.
