These fast winds, expected to persist throughout most of the week, are part of a winter storm system that is forecast to bring excessive rainfall, severe thunderstorms and winter weather to much of the East Coast.

According to the NWS Weather Prediction Center at College Park, a band of severe thunderstorms will move from west to east across the East Coast on Sunday. A weather notice explains that the front of the system is expected to move off the coast Sunday afternoon, ending the severe weather threats for the Eastern Seaboard.

The windy conditions are partly a result of the system’s deep low pressure, according to the weather prediction center. Following the front, Arctic air is expected to fill in behind the storm for the entire eastern portion of the United States on Sunday night, changing rain to snow along western slopes of the central Appalachians, and blizzard conditions are possible over the western panhandle of Maryland, the report reads.

Rain is expected before 1 p.m. Sunday with the possibility of a thunderstorm between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Scattered showers are predicted after 4 p.m. Sunday’s temperature high is expected to be 60 with new rainfall amounts expected to total between a quarter and half an inch.

Evening temperatures are forecast to drop to 28. Wind conditions for the Baltimore area are expected to reach 24 to 29 mph before reducing to 18 to 23 mph. Throughout the evening, gusts up to 60 mph are likely.
