BBC Beyond Paradise fans ‘demand exit’ as they rage at character after finale

Beyond Paradise viewers have expressed their dissatisfaction with a character following the ‘disappointing’ series finale. The BBC crime drama concluded its second series on Friday evening (April 26), which featured the much-awaited wedding day of Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (portrayed by Sally Bretton).

However, the nuptials did not go as planned, leading the couple to decide against getting married. After the finale aired, fans debated whether Martha is the right match for Humphrey, with some suggesting she should be written out of the show, reports the Express.

On a Facebook group, a fan commented: “I don’t know why, but I can’t warm up to Martha. There’s something about her that gives me less than warm feelings.”

The comment sparked a discussion, with another viewer replying: “A very good actress but not right for this part… needs someone more ‘bouncy’.”

Another chimed in: “I’m the same. She’s so uncaring, treats Humphrey so badly, she should have left with her ex when she cheated! Thinks only of herself. Humphrey would still be fab in the program without her, I really can’t see her with kids!”

Echoing the sentiment, another added: “I’m so pleased someone’s finally said it. I agree with you 100%. I thought she was great in Not Going Out but the way she acts this character just doesn’t fit in,”.

Echoing these sentiments, another viewer shared: “I think you have a point and somehow she isn’t a great fit. I think Martha was his rebound because he was so heartbroken over Camille. Our gorgeous Humphrey met Martha at a very vulnerable time as was still raw and just wanted to be loved. I think she doesn’t really love him the way she should but wanted a family.”

Meanwhile, another fan expressed their preference: “I’m not a fan of hers either, I like Esther best.”

This comes in the wake of fans feeling let down by the series finale. Supporters of Humphrey and Martha’s romance from the beginning of Death in Paradise were left hanging.

Eight years on, and viewers were primed for the long-awaited nuptials of Martha and Humphrey, only to be left in shock when the wedding was abruptly cancelled. Despite this, the couple’s relationship appears to be going strong, with plans to foster Ryan now on the horizon.

However, this did little to quell the disappointment of fans, with one venting: “I wanted to see the wedding, the speeches, first dance, and vows, I feel betrayed, beyond betrayed #BeyondParadise.”

“Disappointed that there wasn’t a wedding. Just a very poor ending,” wrote another disgruntled viewer on social media. A third chimed in with similar frustrations: “That was a disappointing end to series 2. Nothing has moved forward since the very first episode.”
