BBC Breakfast’s Carol Kirkwood left ‘shaking’ after co-star Jon Kay warned ‘don’t

Tensions rose on BBC Breakfast today as Jon Kay found himself on the receiving end of a telling-off from his co-presenter, with Carol Kirkwood confessing: “I’m shaking.”

Jon was at the helm of the programme alongside Sarah Campbell, while his regular co-host Sally Nugent was conspicuously absent following her unexplained disappearance earlier in the week.

The atmosphere thickened during a chat about the Uffington White Horse, an iconic British landmark currently undergoing a “facelift” to uncover its mysterious past, with archaeologists digging for answers. However, when the horse was called “the old nag” during the segment, Sarah quickly condemned the term as “disrespectful”.

Jon chimed in: “Especially when the old nag’s looking rather good, now! I’d like a makeover like that! ” To which Sarah seemed lost for words, hastily segueing: “Shall we move to Carol now?” as Jon quipped: “I daren’t. I daren’t!”

Sarah cautioned him: “Don’t say anything! Morning Carol!” The meteorologist, clad entirely in white, admitted: “I’m shaking in my shoes this morning for a minute there,” reports the Mirror.

Jon chuckled: “I think we all were!” as Carol burst into giggles evidently relieved she wasn’t required to pass judgement on Jon’s sharp look, complete with a light grey suit, a pink floral tie, and his signature round glasses.

Carol Kirkwood, the BBC’s seasoned weather presenter, has recently been left feeling “unnerved” on more than one occasion. During a light-hearted exchange with Naga Munchetty about chess prodigies, Naga remarked: “Do you know that I often think that for Carol, there’s a game of chess played here every day, it’s like you’re always trying to anticipate the next move, aren’t you Carol?”

To which Carol responded: “Yes, trying to work out what’s going to come my way Naga.”

Naga playfully replied: “Exactly, always slightly unnerving, which is quite enjoyable sometimes!”

The conversation took a humorous turn as Carol quipped: “I’m standing here shaking in my shoes,” prompting Naga to retort: “No you’re not!” acknowledging Carol’s expertise in weather forecasting.

Later, as they returned to the topic of weather, Naga, who also presents on Radio 5 Live, continued the show by commenting on the day’s conditions: “Gorgeous day behind you, from that picture but a mixed picture, is that fair?” Carol, ever the professional, was ready to proceed with her report, affirming Naga’s observation with an “absolutely, right” before giving the day’s weather rundown.
