BBC Countryfile fans say ‘bored to death’ as episode shifts focus from farming

Countryfile was back on our screens with a fresh episode on Sunday evening on BBC One. Presenter Joe Crawley joined local fishermen along the Dorset shores for this instalment.

But it wasn’t long before viewers took to X, the platform previously known as Twitter, to voice the same grievance – just minutes into the show.

Countryfile’s loyal audience were left scratching their heads over why the programme focused on fishing rather than farming. One viewer tweeted in bemusement: “Am I watching #Countryfile or fishing weekly?!” accompanied by a puzzled emoji.

Another X user expressed discontent, writing: “Any chance of some farming on this episode? #countryfile,” reports the Express.

A disgruntled fan remarked: “Wow. I love #countryfile but jesus. A whole episode about how to fish. Not about the environment, the issues faced by fish, the countryside just fishing #zzzzzzzz.”

Echoing the disappointment, another commented: “And if you want to bore yourself to death and stare at water for a few hours you’ll want to know what the weather is going to be like … #countryfile.”

Clearly yearning for the usual agricultural segments, one person queried: “wheres Adam’s rare cows #countryfile.”

While yet another opined: “Fishing is only very interesting to other people who fish. #Countryfile.”

However, opinions on the episode weren’t universally negative, as a satisfied viewer praised: “Brilliant episode of #Countryfile tonight celebrating fishing and some of our beautiful fish species.”

Viewers expressed their dissatisfaction with a previous episode that centred on the plight of bees, the DNA of pollen, wildflowers and Wakehurst’s Nature Reserve Warden repurposing an area affected by ash dieback. One disgruntled viewer commented: “One of the annual most disappointing episodes”, while another lamented: “What a disappointment tonight’s episode is.”

Countryfile is on BBC1 on Sundays at 7pm and BBC iPlayer
