BBC star describes ‘miracle’ surgery and says ‘cancer never stops’ in emotional health update

A BBC star has posted a lengthy and moving health update to Instagram, saying that “cancer never stops”. Dilly Carter, who appears alongside Stacey Solomon on Sort Your Life Out, has shared her latest health news.

In 2023 Dilly shared that she had been diagnosed with stage one cancer of the womb. She has been keeping fans updated with her recovery, which has included many hospital visits and treatments. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.

Dilly explained how in December, 2023, she was told that she would never be able to eat again and would have to be tube-fed for the rest of her life. She said she fought against this which made her “really ill” and ultimately had to have an emergency bowel resection.

She added: “When I went into that surgery I was seriously ill, I had no idea what would happen to me, but what I did know was that I weighed 6 stone and was so malnourished the surgery was super dangerous, so they had no idea if I would even make it through it as my body was so weak, they didn’t know if the surgery would work or if I would end up with a stoma, but somehow I made it through, by some miracle.”

Dilly was in intensive care for two days after the surgery and towards the end of the post thanked the NHS. She said: “I can’t thank the NHS surgeon who took the risk when we begged him to operate and not put me through any more misery, he listened and saw the pain I was in and did it… Cancer is a never ending journey. Once it starts it never stops. The side effects are things people rarely talk about but for me were the most damaging of all.”
