If you plan on trying to get into the CFP championship game between the Fighting Irish and the Ohio State Buckeyes, you better plan on spending several thousand dollars.
Flights
Direct flights between South Bend International Airport and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport were running anywhere from about $1,000 on Delta Airlines to more than $2,000 on a special flight that’s being offered by United Airlines.
Of course, you could save quite a bit by making the 650-mile drive down to Atlanta, perhaps flying out of a different city or showing flexibility on travel dates. As of Wednesday, Jan. 15, the average price for gas was $3.089, according to AAA.
Tickets
There’s little flexibility on tickets for the Monday night game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, prices ranged from about $1,600 for seats in the nosebleed sections to $3,900 for what remains of the decent seats — in the lower bowl — according to resellers Ticketmaster and StubHub.
If you have a really deep wallet, some field level seats were available for about $16,000.
Hotels
Although there are few ways of avoiding steep game ticket prices, hotels in downtown Atlanta were comparatively reasonable compared to South Bend hotels on football weekends with several available for under $600 and even less per night, especially if you’re willing to take an Uber to the game.
