Body found in Shaler being treated as homicide

Dec. 27—Allegheny County detectives are treating the body found in Shaler Thursday as a homicide because the victim had an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Few other details have surfaced since the discovery of the body by a passerby Thursday afternoon in a wooded area of Shaler.

Jim Madalinsky, public information officer for the Allegheny County Police, confirmed Friday that the body was male, but no identification has been made.

County police issued a statement Friday that said the victim, an adult male, was dressed in multiple layers of clothing and was wearing a mask.

The body was reported about 2:30 p.m. in the woods off the 200 block of Hahn Road and transported to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office, according to police.

Shaler and Allegheny County police initially investigated Thursday, but the investigation has since been handed over to Allegheny County homicide detectives.

Hahn Road is flanked by woods on both sides with only a few homes. The nearest business is bus company ABC Transit.

Shaler police Chief Sean Frank was unavailable for comment Friday.
