OSHKOSH – A bomb threat that resulted in the evacuation of the Walmart at 351 S. Washburn St. Sunday evening was found not to be credible and was also tracked to a potential suspect in Illinois.
Oshkosh Police Department said in a news release it was notified of the bomb threat at around 6:25 p.m. Sept. 8. It said the store immediately evacuated staff and customers after receiving the threat.
Officers assisted the store with shutting down entrances and assisting employees.
Once the store was evacuated, an explosives-detecting canine from the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office assisted other officers and employees in checking the business for suspicious items.
Once the building was deemed safe and the threat no longer credible, the business resumed normal operation.

Police said detectives and officers from the Oshkosh Police Department tracked down a potential suspect residing in Illinois. An agency in Illinois law enforcement agency made contact with the suspect, police said, and the investigation was ongoing late Sunday night.
