Box truck crashes into construction zone vehicle on I-84, sending one person to hospital

One person was taken to the hospital after a box truck crashed into an attenuator truck at a construction zone on Interstate 84 in Newtown on Thursday.

The collision was reported shortly after 4 a.m. on I-84 East in the area of Exit 9, according to Connecticut State Police.

Troopers, medics and members of the Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Department responded. State police said one person was taken to an area hospital. According to fire officials, the injuries were minor.

Fire officials said the collision occurred between a box truck and an attenuator truck positioned at the start of a construction pattern. Photos of the crash show that the attenuator truck advised motorists the right lane of I-84 East was closed for construction.

State police said both vehicles were towed from the scene.
